The work of Michelle Hall is interdisciplinary in nature, encompassing performance and text as well as objects. The output which summarizes these creative approaches is a video with narrative commentary. In this case, she presents two videos of this kind. Both are based on stories, although it remains unclear whether these are based on reality or simply fiction. This is particularly true of “The Lament of the Jade Phoenix”, consisting of a series of short sequences drawing on the artist’s personal history as well as references to therapy. The video showcases the artist’s method, based on a love of storytelling, a penchant for stories lurking behind the visible reality, and connecting seemingly unrelated objects, stories and processes. / / / Michelle Hall has been selected in cooperation with the RDS Visual Art Awards, Ireland.
