Something from post-modern aesthetics seems to survive in Holger Højberg’s painting, and this is equally true for his diploma thesis, consisting of a large series of paintings, ironically connected – besides having similar formats and technique combining classical and sprayed painting, sometimes complemented with collage – by the intentional diversity of their contents. Sometimes they are abstract, sometimes figurative, often placing completely disparate motives next to one another in the same painting, or using quotations. In other words, this is a post-modern mélange, yet served in an interesting and painterly self-confident manner. /mf
