Photographer Tamara Stoll lives in Leipzig, where she studied, and in London, where her diploma project originated. It is in the form of a book in which she summarises a seven-year period of research into one outstanding site. The Ridley Road Market in Eastern London is a traditional market with a history dating back to the 19th century. The amount of time that the artist dedicated to the project testifies to her long-term interest in the urban space and the communities sharing it. Her work is usually based on photographic documentation, but she always seeks a broader view and a combination of diverse approaches, such as archival research, interviews with contemporaries and contemporary witnesses, and even concrete action. In this case, for instance, she published postcards with both historical and contemporary photographs of the site, and sold them herself at one of the stands. /mf
