The result of the project Think About the Box is a series of realist figurative paintings, in which Lucian Bruma examines the situation of the artist, as well as many others in contemporary society. The metaphor he chooses to represent this situation is a plain cardboard box – the box we inhabit, where we spend our everyday lives, where we can be isolated and at the same time be creative, to realize our potential, our identity. For sometimes the “box” paradoxically allows for more space than the open, globalized world. Yet this is never as simple as it seems. The paintings draw on the artist’s personal experience and his own research, which opens questions concerning the ambiguity of the line between the material and the immaterial, the object and non-object, space and the lack of space.
