The projects of Tehran's native Zagrose Mehrkian, who is studying in the French city of Toulon, are based, among other things, on his own cultural and linguistic experiences, but expand and generalize it into basic and universal linguistic forms. The resulting performances and videos capture translations of Dick Higgins' vocal poetry into two hundred different languages, or attempts to transcribe only through onomatopoia and gestures his own memories of childhood in a wartime, or the infamous hateful speech of Ayatollah Khomeini. Mehrkian shows us both sides of current multicultural misunderstandings, their helplessness and their true inner depth. / pv
