Luke McCowan

Luke McCowan’s large paintings have a special nature. At first glance, everything is clear in them, the elements from which they are assembled and the way they are painted. And as a painter, McCowan explores the relationship between painting and photography today. His sophisticated play with foreground and background, with precise photographic painting and vagueness, makes his paintings easy to read. But it is the game between these poles that vibrates our perception. The question of importance and meaning takes place in our minds. McCowan erodes the clarity of the image, just as our brains erode the accuracy of memories (symbolized by family photographs) and natural processes round the edges of rocks. -rv-
