START POINT PRIZE – Prize for emerging artists

Bianca Basan

The photographs by Bianca Basan are characterised by a surreal, ambigous atmosphere, similar to that found in the films of David Lynch (we can find a direct reference in some of them) or from the photographs by Francesla Woodman (1958-1981), an American artist who committed suicide at the age of 22, but created an authentic body of work. In fact, Basan devotes one part of her series to Woodman. Basan sometimes presents the photographs in installations, thus creating real interiors, and complements them with videos and her own performances. (mf)
