START POINT PRIZE – Prize for emerging artists

This body of work consists out of 3 short films, a sequence of autobiographical nature. The works enfold the attempt of understanding one’s personal heritage, closely observing main characters of influence. 1# ‘Look At Me’ 2014 Short film, 10 min. 2# ‘We Have To Do This For Lisa’ 2013 Short film, 19 min. 3# ‘Grandmother with Horse’ 2012 Short film, 7 min. My work enfolds a sincere interest in human relationships. It derives from a neccesity to come to an understanding of the world and the people in it, the other and the self. How we relate to one another and how we define ourselves towards eachother. How we are shaped to see and portray ourselves the way we do. I investigate these questions trough positioning the camera between my subject and me, creating a powerplay, a struggle in representation of self, an unusual relationship. My work is often of autobiographical nature, investigating a personal heritage, closely observing , framing, tormenting characters of main influence. The work tries to transform the personal into the universal, dealing with the semantics of relationships, the origin of self, family tragedy, adressing the human and the elementary. The work is imbedded with retrospective qualities that find their origins in my personal history, influencing my artistic practice, the work itself and inevitably the viewer.
