Saija Kassinen

Saija Kassinen’s interactive video installation entitled “117, 297, 395” was inspired by three books presenting the stories of three unique lives. The first is the story of a man trapped in his own body for twelve years, the other of a woman who falls prey to ideology, and the third about the profound impact of depression. Kassinen created three compelling video-essays that take us deep into these somber themes, conveying the innermost experiences of the three protagonists. Using contemporary visual language, she shows how profoundly these three kinds of spiritual incarceration can influence one’s thinking, mindset and actions, and to what extent one is able to understand this kind of behavior from a so-called “normal” vantage point.
