Tytus Szabelski

The work of Tytus Szabelski deals with the most relevant issue of the relationship between “reality” and “visuality”. The material and the immaterial, the tangible and the intangible intertwine in his photographs and installations, as the object and its representation overlap and transform one another on multiple layers where we never learn which one is the ultimate reality. The point here is not the objects depicted, but the ways in which they are represented and further formed by various degrees and angles of visualization, creating confusing, self-absorbed visual labyrinths. Szabelski’s “reality in meltdown” shifts from a solid state into a fluid and variable process where our seeing and perception are continually forced to surrender all previously gained vantage points.
