WINNER OF START POINT PRIZE 2009

Serena Korda’s installation “Building the Matterhorn” combines several genres: a sculpturally conceived antiquarian closet showing equally antiquated instructions for housewives on how to construct your own home mountain. The audio track features one of the first female mountaineers, Annie Smith Peck, describing her ascent of Huascarán. Another video, presented in the form of a security camera, shows the digging of a pit. The installation includes a book by the artist, made using various graphic techniques. –pv-
