Paul Paillet
In his thesis, Paul Paillet combined several loosely interconnected cycles into the form of a fictional town in which the component parts are minimalized and the forms and materials are transformed. Concrete casts of corrugated sheets, a dazzling flashing neon light and abstract shapes of functionalist furniture together create abstract sets for examining the rules of urban space. Video Trucks examines construction machines in a manner more often used for zoological observations. He studies their generic diversity and behavorial changes so that their function and absurdity is more clearly revealed. In a series of photographs entitled Encombrants, made over time with a mobile phone, Paillet collects accidental street compositions which inspire and at the same time detracts from his own work.
