Jiří Staněk

The initial inspiration for Jiří Staněk's graduation project was a book by the photographer Edmund Engelman, depicting Sigmund Freud's apartment and workroom a few days before his exile to England in 1938, along with a cycle of drawings by Robert Longo in 2000 according to these photographs. Staněk elaborates on the photographs' interpretation of the privacy of the founder of Psychoanalysis in his own way, through various graphic techniques, layered to form enormous hanging images and through found objects: an antique carpet bearing a huge burned tree stump on coal legs not only celebrates but also creates the surreal.
