Tomas Espinosa

Objects, installations and performances by Tomás Espinoza revolve around topics of the public and private, intimacy and friendliness. His mirror structure in Tiergarten park in Berlin, famous for incidental sexual encounters, plays the role of a perfect hideaway and an object of reflection, too. We may perceive the audio-visual party in the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin as its complimentary opposite. It remained closed to all uninvited people - they could only watch the party from the adjacent terraces, at a distance. This is the artist's critique of the posh inaccessibility of famous "rooftop parties" held in the iconic building. Countless cucumbers made of burned clay in the installation, "Between Us", invite viewers to touch and participate, which brings about the same intimate inappropriateness. (pv)
