START POINT PRIZE – Prize for emerging artists

Aleksi Linnamaa

The experience of the space which the camera in the video Linear Sequentiality passes very slowly on a broken diagonal, is showing according to the author’s words “the need to mix the romantic fetish of debris with structural methods of non-narrative cinema”. Linnamaa combines here also two disparate historical lines: the village school, which was attended by his grandfather and mother, was closed at the same time when Gordon Matta-Clark began to develop his ideas of “anarchitecture”. The farmer, who chose to transform the school in a peculiar manner into a giant garage, offered to the artist a magnanimous objet trouvé. (Pavel Vančát)
