START POINT PRIZE – Prize for emerging artists

Petra Hermanová

Petra Hermanová’s short film evokes strong emotions and unease. Pictures that were manipulated in the postproduction process appear in rotation with images that seem to have been “alienated” from personal archives. The voice of a foreigner, an “alien”, struggling with the correct phonetics of ch lacks the semantic stress that could help decrypt the message. The content is urgent, but also empty. An obsession with voyeurism oversaturates one’s memory with the memories of others, alien memories. There was something we wanted, but at the same time we didn’t want it, and now we’re unable and unwilling to get rid of it; likewise, it would be impossible to spend a long time trying to get a scene out of your head while also not being able to clearly recall it. Perhaps this way, but maybe also another way. (Ondřej Chrobák)
