Katinka vanGorkum
Installation and performances of Katinka van Gorkum combine playfulness and scientific approach. The testing of various roles, including the animal ones, is the basis of her analysis of our behavior and relations toward the world. In her video Ambo II plays a major role a masked Monkey, proclaimed as author’s alter-ego, which has on one side omniscient characteristics and on the other hand, soulless uniformity. Even the park, where the Monkey finds a banana, is just a paper backdrop. The installation surrounding the video invites us to a playful redefinition of our perception of reality and our role in it.
