START POINT PRIZE – Prize for emerging artists

This year it has been one hundred years since Marcel Duchamp created his famous Nude Descending a Staircase. Katarzyna Ditrich-Paturalska has approached her graduation project as a tribute to this famous work. She has only adopted Duchamp's basic theme of an anonymous figure (like in Duchamp's work, in her case it is also unclear if the nude is male or female) descending a staircase, though instead of the phased movement in a single picture, she has shown the figure from three different angles. In her light drawings created using a lit LED tape adhered to Plexiglas, she is concerned with the elementary relationships of the human figure in movement depicted in three-dimensional illusory space.
